Locomotive driver

Operates locomotives hauling freight trains in accordance with the timetable, railway regulations and operational safety requirements.

Main responsibilities

  • Operates the locomotive and monitors the transport on the allocated route.
  • Checks the locomotive’s basic operation before and during service.
  • Complies with signalling, traffic instructions and safety procedures.
  • Maintains continuous communication with the train manager, dispatch and involved personnel.
  • Promptly reports faults or situations that may affect train movement.

Train manager

Coordinates freight-train activity during transport and contributes to the proper management of operational documents and information.

Main responsibilities

  • Checks the train’s operational readiness before departure.
  • Manages transport documents and information concerning wagons and cargo.
  • Maintains communication among the locomotive driver, dispatch and railway personnel.
  • Monitors compliance with traffic conditions and applicable procedures.
  • Supports management of situations arising during transport.

Wagon shunter

Participates in preparing freight trains at stations, marshalling yards, terminals and industrial locations. This is an essential role for correct formation, positioning and preparation of wagons for transport.

Main responsibilities

  • Performs wagon coupling and uncoupling operations.
  • Checks the shunting route before operations begin.
  • Gives the signals required to personnel involved in shunting.
  • Participates in forming, splitting and repositioning freight trains.
  • Continuously complies with work instructions and safety requirements.

Shunting manager

Organises and supervises shunting activity, ensuring correct wagon positioning and performance of operations in accordance with the established plan.

Main responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates shunting in stations, yards, terminals and loading or unloading locations.
  • Coordinates the shunting team and assigns operating tasks.
  • Checks wagon positioning and compliance with the shunting plan.
  • Maintains communication with locomotive personnel and operational stakeholders.
  • Monitors compliance with safety measures throughout the activity.

Wagon technical inspector

Checks the technical condition of freight wagons before dispatch and, when necessary, during movement. The role contributes directly to train safety and keeping rolling stock in proper condition.

Main responsibilities

  • Performs technical checks of freight wagons.
  • Identifies faults or non-conformities that may affect traffic safety.
  • Reports the need for technical intervention and helps apply required measures.
  • Checks visible items relevant to the wagon’s safe movement.
  • Works with operational and technical staff to maintain rolling-stock availability.
